Not much of a burp when pushing back oil into the remote oil tank

Sounds to me that your oil reservoir/tank is lower than the Rotax recommendation.

This may mean - when engine shut down, most of the oil in the crankcase, is draining into the tank,  leaving very little to be "burped" back into the tank when you hand turn the prop.

The oil tank on my Moyes-Bailey Dragonfly is at a similar height, below the engine.  The oil drains from the crankcase naturally.  I have never managed to get any burps from it.

I'm with Sean. The oil tank is way too low and the oil just drains back by itself. Rotax has a specific height placement of the oil tank compared to the engine. KitFox many years ago found this out when they mounted the tank way too high. That caused oil to drain back into the cylinders.

Pls refer to Rotax Installation Manual (page 198). The drawing contains the information Sean and Roger referred to.

I did mount the tank per specification of the manual in that the oil level is around -14.5" below the prop center.  The spec is -15.75" inches. Having the level at 1/2 or just slightly below the half way spot on the oil dip stick I guess just won't cut it.  I will go back to having the oil level on the stick at the full mark or slightly as it was previously.   It gurgled then although it usually just took less then a revolution to do so.
