It seems to me to have understood through the Rotax 912 documentation, that there are 2 definitions  of fly wheel :

Ø              - Old fly wheel with edges of trigger cam : 26 deg BTDC to  4 deg BTDC

                   - New  fly wheel with edges of trigger cam : 26 deg BTDC to  3 deg ATDC

What is the reason for this evolution?

Since has this evolution occurred?

The change was in 2010 when the soft start was introduced.  Part of the change was a change in timing, which is done by the flywheel timing bars that pass by the trigger coils.   The timing delay, 3 to 5 seconds, is done in the module with a timing circuit.

In the 912 IPC it shows both the new and old versions and a note on the new number:  a See SI-912-028 Advanced start system

Pull up the Service Information for more data.

    Cheers
