You can induce a Lane failure by performing the Lane checks incorrectly.
Here is a bulletin that Flight Design published to help people understand how to do a Lane check correctly and not try and do it like a conventional mag check.

This may help some avoid warning lights.

This has good information on a proper Lane check but it attempts to justify a crappy switch instead of issuing a modification to convert to toggle switches.
For everyone building a 912iS; please note this document was released in 2015 but the Rotax Installation Manual revision (Aug 2015) has removed all reference to rotary switches.
It is highly recommended to use the much more reliable and intuitive toggle/rocker switch.

    Hi Rob,

I know it's better and toggle switches are recommended, but some of these aircraft Mfg's are still using rotary.
I think the number one problem causer of the 912iS engine is Mfg's or owners wanting to wire things their way and not the way Rotax needs it setup.
Makes life easier just to follow Rotax's tested and researched setup.

i eventually went with toggle switches. The stakes are higher for key switches on this engine. In a magneto equipped aircraft and the key switch fails, you might not be able to start or not stop a running engine. With a 912 iS, if the switch fails, the motor can stop. I've bought AN/MS switches that are not very expensive. You need seven of them plus a master switch. (lanes A and B, pumps 1 and 2. Start power, start and emergency battery.).
