Bad boy Roger, where are the instructions for that method?
putting a layer on both sides can cause a "gasket effect". the surfaces are designed to only have a micro thin sealant, essentially metal to metal.
Worst case: If you put sealant on both sides of the crankcase you will lose oil pressure at operating temps due to the greater clearance caused by the "gasket".

    Hi Rob,
    I understand.
I know it isn't standard practice, but...
It can still be thin. My thin layer on each side may be less thick than many single layer applications. I've never had a leak in 18 years. We both know many people apply it too thick to start.

Besides I like being a bad boy once in a while...:)

Yes it looks like my thin coat as directed by rotax on one side has not worked very well

The surface may not have been clean, or the housing brushed against something during the stator replacement.
The correct procedure of applying the sealant on one side is not the problem.
