Hi Paul,
In general I support your statement/rational above.
My concerne (without knowing you or your "buo") was the basic nature of some of the questions you posed.eg the broken ring/diff. pressure test.
While I support the philosophy that all questions and civil debat is good, I question the idea that it is appropriate for a mechanical neophyte (my perception) to be seeking advice/direction on this Forum.
Taking the broken ring/diff. pressure test. as an example - In the context of a training environment, this is a good question but problematic in this sort of environment, for the reasons I articulated.
The advice I gave you was appropriate 😈

Sorry Sean for what ever is happening to you. Bringing it here is not appropriate as well as the advice you give.
You are not really making sense so better to take your attitude somewhere else, it does not belong here and it is not appreciated.
Best.

So --- You think it appropriate to ask basic questions, out of context, that may lead an inexperienced person to attempt a diagnosis/fix that they are ill equipped to attempt.
I say again - in general I support your philosophy, as articulated earlier, however it must be in context. You seem to have missed this point.
Your reasoning "in a nutshell" - A knowledgeable person (you), asking leading questions, to elicit a response, which may inform you of the respondents understanding IS appropriate in a training environment - not in an open Forum, where your motives/understanding are not known to the reader.
From my perspective, you presented your questions as a person, almost completely lacking in Rotax experince/knowledge. You have given weight to my perspective (see above).
It is in this context, it was reasonable that I advised you to seek the assistance of a mentor.
Perhaps you expect people to somehow know that you are not the Rotax neophyte you portrayed - News flash!!! I don't know you and I suspect that you are not known to most, if not all, of the international participants on the Forum.
"Sorry Sean for what ever is happening to you. Bringing it here is not appropriate as well as the advice you give.

Wow! talk about patronising and presumptive.
That you somehow feel it appropriate to make judgements about my situation/attitude is not reasonable.
While I may present an assertive argument, I do not descend into nasty, always unwarranted, personal attacks. Shame on you.
This is an Rotax engineering forum, not an amature psychological diagnostic forum. Right back to you - You are not really making sense so better to take your attitude somewhere else, it does not belong here and it is not appreciated. - Get a life buddy!
Having no desire to go any further down the school yard name calling "troll" behaviour, I will go no further with this conversation.😈

I wouldn’t bet much of your wealth on yourself for which of the two of you will be on here longer, Sean. I do hope you enjoy your well-earned leave of absence elsewhere.

There are a couple of good articles on AOPA's website, by Mike Busch and Jeff Simon, about compression testing. Spoiler: Mike believes that it's nearly useless. Jeff is more sanguine, but points out that borescope inspections are much more useful for determining cylinder health. In other things he's written, and in his EAA webinars, Mike also evangelizes in favor of borescope usage.
Mike's article: https://aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2023/july/pilot/savvy-maintenance-unbelievable-compression
Jeff's article: https://aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2023/february/13/aircraft-maintenance-a-modern-approach-to-compression-testing
For borescopes, Mike recommends the Oasis Scientific VA-400: https://www.oasisscientific.com/products/vividia-ablescope-va-400-v5-usb-rigid-long-articulating-borescope-with-180-degree-one-way-articulation
Specific brand or model of borescope isn't important; just that you can articulate the business end of it to clearly photograph the valves.
If you're an EAA member, you can watch two of Mike's webinars about engine condition inspections, both of which contain good info about compression testing and borescope inspections.

"Borescope Initiative": https://www.eaa.org/videos/webinars/6352195828112
Finally, there's an upcoming EAA Webinar about compression testing by Bill Ross from Superior Air Parts: https://pages.eaa.org/WBN2025-03-26AircraftEngineCompressionTesting_LP-Registration.html
Eric,
Great perspective from Mike on borescopes. I just bought one. Appreciate your efforts putting these resources together.
