    Hi Ted,

Most of us don't use a mineral oil as you said a Dino oil. You must use a motorcycle oil and not a car oil. The car oils do not have the additives for the gearbox. Like a motorcycle our engine shares crankcase and gearbox oil. Use either a full synthetic or semi synthetic. If you use 100LL you absolutely need a semi synthetic oil because a full syn will not suspend the lead in the 100LL and it will fall out of solution and accumulate in your engine where you really don't want it, but who wants lead anywhere. A good semi syn oil is Aero Shell Sport Plus 4 made with the Rotax in mind. If you use 100LL then use Decalin a lead scavenger (1/2 oz per 10 gal) and change the oil every 25 hrs.

If you use 91 Oct. unleaded auto fuel then you can use either a full syn or a semi syn oil. Two good full synthetics are Mobile One Racing 4T (10-40W) or Amsoil (10-40w or 20-50w for hot weather. Rotax says with 91 oct. up to 100 hrs between oil changes. most of us do not wait that long. Every one I know changes it at 50-75 hrs. It's the life blood of the engine why leave it in to cause any long term issue. You should do an oil analysis too every 100 hrs. AvLabs is a good source with a huge Rotax data base and oil Kits.

You have to buy the Aero Shell on line and here is a link: http://oil-store.com/

Amsoil can be found through its on line dealer locator and they are most likely in your neighborhood.

her is an oil comparison article which at least tells you about what's in oils and why. It will also rate them.

    Thanks Roger,
I didn't think that Amsoil was being used because of it's lack of aviation certification, I really do appreciate all the info you shared.

    Thanks again,

    Ted
