Hi Guys

Received the 881 280 SSM kit from Lockwood but has no installation instructions.

I read that its plug and play but with an extra wire for each.

Does anyone have the instructions please?

    Hi Reilly,

It is plug & play for the 6 pin connector. You will just have one open pin slot on each module. make a wire and put one in each module in that open slot. Then run the two wires down to your starter solenoid. You have the larger wires on each side and the small wire in the middle. Take your two new wires that go up to the modules and join them with that small wire in the center of the solenoid. So now you have three wires on that center connection of the solenoid. Now when you turn the engine on these two wires will energise the soft start modules.

    That's it. really simple.

My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that the soft start only works on one of the modules and that you must start with the other module off. I'm toying with the idea of fitting one and have been told that because I have a left-right-both-start ignition key switch I have to either put in separate mag/module switches or install a push button starter and start with the key switch on the mag/module that the soft start is connected to.
Can anybody confirm or correct me on this?

Rotax does have their ignition system setup as an individual switch for ignition #1-2 in the manual, but many owners have it setup on the standard rotary switch. Either seems to work just fine. It seems to be more a personal preference. I have soft start in my Flight Design CT and it's on a rotary switch as are all the FD CT's.

    Hi Mike

If you fit the after market "Conair Soft Start", it is only fitted to one ignition module and you would start the engine on that ignition circuit only.

The Rotax one is built into the CDI units themselves and each module has the "Easy start", so you start your engine as normal with both mags on.

    Mark and Roger
Thank you, I was talking about the aftermarket soft start,I'd forgotten that Rotax now include a soft start.
