I have seen several ways to install the fire sleeve on fuel & oil lines. If we slide the sleeve over the fitting, seal it & clamp it are we not concerned that we cannot see a leak ? Thanks

If there were to be a leak it will still leak out the end. It isn't absolutely sealed liquid tight. The ends that are done with the clamp don't need to be that tight as to crush everything.

Thanks for getting back to me Roger. Based on your answer you would just dip the ends & not use the RTV or tape like some do.

    Hi John,

If you have "End Dip" liquid then use it. If not purchasing a quart of that is about $250. If you don't have it you can thin out red high temp RTV silicone with Toluene (very thin and runny and should not be a thick paste) and apply that to the ends and back about 1" to do a good job. It needs to be thin so it soaks into the fibers of the fire sleeve. This is the same thing End Dip does. Whatever you do don't use the RTV silicone and glob it on the ends like I have seen some do. You will need to inspect or replace some day and removing that garbage off the end is a PITA and leaves a mess. You can just use the End Wrap tape if you want which is perfectly acceptable and is what it was designed for. Once wrapped in place it is self vulcanizing and sealing.

The fire sleeve isn't designed to keep fluids fully contained. If a line ruptured inside it it will leak out an end, but wouldn't spray. The fire sleeve is more for protecting flammable liquids like the fuel and oil from an existing fire and not adding to the problem. A fuel fed fire can burn up to 2000 degrees. I would bet most fires are electrical caused followed by fuel fires on hot exhaust.
