I’ve just had my 912 gearbox serviced. When I remounted it, being a good boy I treated myself to new mounting bolt washers on the 2 M8 and 8 M6 bolts. When ordering these washers I was surprised to see in the latest parts catalogue that the washers are being changed from the split-ring lock washers to plain flat washers. The M8 washers have already changed and the M6’s are in the process of changing (both currently listed but notified as changing over).

I was just curious, from an engineering point of view why would this change be made? What is the advantage in this application of a flat washer over a locking washer? Surely now there will be no locking mechanism for these bolts?
