Hi Thomas
The intake is a different mix of stainless than the exhaust. The exhaust has a armored face and the intake does not. On the latest versions the exhaust valve used for all turbo engines is also a sodium filled stem.

In case you have a borescope at hand you’d be able to see colored spots on the valves very early which may indicate upcoming issues. The pain buying one seems acceptable (it only hurts once). A visual check actually takes minutes.
