Hello,

I am using a USB to serial converter to get the TCU on a 914 to talk to the TLR programme. I have managed to get the serial port to be Com2 and upon launching the TLR I go through the menus of selecting the type of display (VGA) and the Com. Everything seems to be working fine until I select "monitor" and I get a "Serial I/O error". I'm running Windows 7 on my laptop.

What could I be doing wrong? I can't calibrate my throttle until I get this working! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Ankit
Windows 7 is not compatable with DOS. Find a XP machine and it will work.

It is possible to to run the software successfully on 32bit machines even with windows 7.
Because I am not a computer expert I don't know how you determine if it is a 64bit or 32bit machine though...

We did discover on some occasions the TLR program will run if the software is on a USB memory stick instead of on the computer hard drive.

It could be a problem with the USB to serial adapter, we found the TCU doesn't work with a lot of cables.

It can be difficult to get the program working..... Make sure the TCU is powered up.

You can only interrogate TCU part number 966741 with TLR4.6A. other TCU's need a special cable with a dongle.

    Conrad is correct.

Although sometimes frustrating, the TLR software is able to work on most operating systems other than 64 bit.
(I have had it running on a Macbook using VirtualBox, Windows XP and a USB to serial converter)

Your most likely problem is that you are trying to connect to a TCU version 4.3 (966470) or 4.5 (966473).
These older versions of the TCU require a connection cable with a "Dongle"
The newest 4.6 version of the TCU (966741) does not need this "dongle" to communicate.

If connecting to an older version TCU (4.3 or 4.5) without the dongle, you will receive this "Serial I/O error"

Check with your local Rotax Distributor, Service Centre or Repair Centre, they may have this "dongle" cable.

P.S. if you are running Windows in 64 bit, you will receive an error similar to this when attempting to run any TLR program:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

    Rotax Owner.

I managed to lay my hands on an old desktop running Win XP with a serial port so that solved my problem for now. Will surely revisit the issue with USB-Serial converter issue to try and figure out what's keeping that from working.

    Hi Everybody,

I have a 914 engine mounted on a Europa Aircraft. The TCU is an older version and needs the dongle for PC connection.
The problem is that Rotax itself says it's sold out (P/N 966 670).

Anybody could lend it or sell it ? The engine has serious disorders at full power (instability and power losses) and the only way to test the sensors is the TLR program with the dongle...

    Many thanks for your help
