Any MFG that manufactures something that can cause injury or kill will always fall on the conservative side. many times a MFG has info the end user doesn't. Other times MFG's knows that people don't have the skill set to do a good job with an on condition inspection and other times they know people will try and stretch the boundaries. Owners have created their own mess by doing dumb things. Then the courts get involved and it cost companies big bucks win or lose. I don't know what Rotax pays in liability insurance, but when I MFG'd dive compressors I paid $35K for the first few years and then it went down to $25K per year.

Gates belt and hose MFG did a big study on hose failures and it was on their website for a long time. Big failures started at 4 years. Then you have someone that says he doesn't have to change hose because he inspected it and it felt soft or he knows the hose under the fire sleeve that he hasn't seen for years is okay. Foolish and uneducated answers.

That's why MFG's fall on the side of safety. Some owners are their own worst enemy.

I just did my 5 year rubber replacement and when it came to the fuel pump even though it still functioned the end of the plunger was damaged from a galled up e-centric probably damaged by the older style fuel pumps that kept failing I went thru 3 of them before the new style pump came out. It is well worth having a look at the e-centric while the pump is off.

    Thanks Garret,

    You replaced the e-centric? Or?

Yes, replaced the e-centric no choice in that it would have damaged the new pump, and had the gearbox serviced since it was all apart.

    "Yes, replaced the e-centric...."

Do you happen to remember what that part cost...source?
Did in get that you have to get into the gearbox to R&R the e-centric?
