Fuel pump assembly usable?

I found that the new fuel pump assembly that came with the engine I purchased may fall into the serial number range listed in ASB-915 i A-006, ASB-912 i-010 . What does this mean for me? is this fuel pump assembly that's never been installed unusable?  It is Assembly 889696 S/N 18.0803. You'd think the previous owner would have had it replaced if they had the option but apparently didn't. The serial number of the fuel pump was not shared with me so I'm just discovering this now. what are my options as far as this assembly goes?
