I'm up to 20 hours and going beautifully.. smooth and powerful for 100hp. I am still in testing phase but I have been pulling throttle back to the ECO position (indicated on the Garmin G3X EFIS) then managing power with the csu. Looks around 16 lph.

I have been FLYING 170 hours (PIPISTREL VIRUS SW) with the 921is and until today I have continuously problems with this engine:

    - After 60 hours the engine has been changed by a new one (UNDER WARRANTY). The water pump broken!

    - The LANE B lights one after each take-off and must be reset many time, otherwise the consumption is too high.

    - After a trip of 3 hours and landing, on the ground the starter was continously turning, impossible to stop the engine.

    - Recently: 60% LOSS OF POWER JUST AFTER THE TAKE-OFF in a mountain environment.

THIS ENMGINE IS ABSOLUTELY NOT RELIABLE AND WILL KILL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have they resolved the gearbox problems with the IS model?

    Hi Nicolas,
First I'm sorry as pilot to pilot your having all these issues.
You should look more at Pipistrel and not Rotax especially if you have tried two engines. Two different engines with issues point hard at Pipistrel setup.
The huge majority of issues with the 912is engine has come from Mfg's not installing as per Rotax and doing there own thing. Too many Mfg's think they know more than Rotax and how the engine was designed. Every engine in any venue can have differences from one to another so that engine's MFG specs should be followed. The mounting and wiring setup should be followed as strict as possible. I've never heard of an 912is engine having all these issues IF properly installed within Rotax specs. I do know Pipistrel made mistakes and don't know for sure where that all lies.

I think problem resolution lies within Pipistrel.

    Hi Roger,

    Thanks for your reply.

Actually Pipistrel is an official dealer of Rotax. If they are not able to install properly a Rotax engine, who can do it?!!!

For Pipistrel is Rotax and my problems concern Rotax.
