Hello all,
I have a fault on pump 1 which I have narrowed down to the following:

Start Power ON: pump 1 (and 2) work fine.
Engines starts fine on pump 1 only.
After engine start, turn OFF Start Power: engine still runs fine on pump 1 only.
Turn pump 2 on: engine runs fine.
Turn pump 2 off: engine stops and pump 1 is no longer running.

Behaviour is same if accelerate engine to switch over from alternator B to alternator A.

It seems that turning on pump 2 is somehow switching pump 1 onto another power circuit, which in turn has a fault or loose connection.

I'm taking it to a Rotax service agent on Friday to plug in the diagnostics and see what that shows, but would be grateful for any suggestions on where to look as they have never seen this behaviour either.

Engine has done 130 hours and this has only appeared recently. Aircraft is a kit-built Bristell NG5..

TIA, David

Is this a new plane or just a new problem after a lot of normal run hours?

    If it’s new,
Several companies have done a poor job in their wiring and installation of the engine electronics. This may be just that. Companies have had to trade bleshoot and fix wiring issues for customers because they failed to follow the Rotax specific wiring and did their own thing. I’m not sure that is what is going on here, but should be looked at.

Hello Roger, it's a new problem after over 100 hours trouble free flying. We're taking it to the Rotax engineer that did the original engine fit on Friday so hopefully there will be something in the diagnostics to point us towards a possible cause.

I had a similar problem with pump 2 intermittently quitting. I eventually traced it to a connector issue in the HIC connector. The pin was not fully seated into the HIC connector block and was not making a full and reliable connection.
    Good luck with your issue,
    Joe

Hi David. How did you resolve fuel pump problem?

    I have a similar one.

From what I have been told, Rotax is aware of the HIC fuel pump connection issue and is currently working on a fix. I am sure Rotax-Owner will have an update on this situation soon.
