Wanting to know if anyone favors a certain type EGT gauge, number and type of probes, location. I am looking to do an install on my 912ULS, tractor type configuration. I am hoping to stay with a 2" gauge, and have been considering Micro-1000, single or double, and Aviasport. thx

    Hi Rex,

Most use only 2 EGT probes even if they have a digital display that can read all 4 exhaust. Some do have all 4. Since you are going to use an analog gauge then 2 works out just fine. Most put the probes on #3 & #4 cyl. The correct position is 100mm (3.9") out from the exhaust port. The easiest way is to use the probes with the hose clamp. Just drill the small hole, clamp the probe on and attach it to your gauge setup. This may be the most common. The other style are the screw on nipple receivers that are welded on the exhaust pipe. Your choice.

Thank you Roger, This is what I had planned to do, but wondering if it was best. Does it matter if a single gauge with single scale is used with a switch, or a dual scaled gauge is used w/o switch? Maybe just preference? Also curious if any of the instruments were more or less reliable than another.

I would use a single gauge with 2 needles. You may have it switched to one side and leave it and something may happen on the other. Eventually you'll get complacent about switching the switch.
