Just starting condition inspection on my Kitfox 3. Doing compression test all 80/79 except cyl 3. 912 is early 80 horse under 1200 hrs that I've owned and maintained for 9 years. Runs just fine. That cyl was 80/76 last year and similar for the last several years. Plugs all looked good. I'm thinking some crud might keep a valve from closing. I'm thinking I'll put things back together and take it up and fly around on high cruise for an hour or so and see if it clears up. If it doesn't clear up, what would be my next step. I did the Service & Maintenance class a few years ago.years

    Hi Pete,

My bet is you have some crud as you say under a valve seat or the rings have aligned just right. Just run it 10 minutes with some rpm and then retest it. Just had a Tecnam this last weekend during a class do the same thing. ran it a few minutes problem solved.

Thanks Roger. Sure miss Tucson Mexican food. I'm hoping to make it to Cactus from Austin this year.

    NO JOY!
The good news that it runs great. The BAD NEWS is that I ran it at high speed for quite awhile then retested. No fix. I went flying and climbed to 6500 ' which warmerd up the engine really well. Cruised at hi Cruze for a half hr and went back to the airport. Checked cyl 3 again and no joy. Heard air at the exhaust some of the time and the oil tank some of the time. I guess pulling the head is in order?
