Hello. Jon Coke from HomebuiltHelp posted a video this week about "Increasing HP for the Rotax 912 engine". He linked to a video from Edge Performance at AirVenture 2016. Edge Performance is a Norwegian company.
Among other products they have an add-on Electronic Fuel Injection. It is tempting. A downside to these products is that using them negates the Rotax warranty.
I am interested in any opinions on this product. Thanks.

Well, it's one thing to hot-rod a car - cars tend to not fall very far when the engine quits.

But really - can it be wise to take an AIRCRAFT engine that was very carefully designed to reliably output 100 HP and make it run 50% harder?

There is probably a good reason why ROTAX has published this Service Letter...

I was not referring to the products that souped up the engine to 154HP. My question was about the EFI add on product. That supposedly has a minimal increase in power along with the other benefits of ECI. I am curious about what others think about the add on EFI and whether others have any experience with this product. Thanks.

    Do it right!

The proper Upgrade to a Rotax 912ULS to fuel injection is called a Rotax 912iS.
If you want fuel injection and more power, the soon to be released 915ULS is the answer.

I have no personal experience with this Kit.

However I have a Buddy whom has been running one of their EFI kits for a number of year and it works very well. I have converted a number of Carb based engines to EFI and once you do that you will not go back. The advantages are no carb balancing, whick tends to save gear boxes, easier starting, a little more power and better altitude compensation.

If people like these guys had not done such a good job at this I suspect Rotax would never have bothered with the IS engine or 915 engine.

Generally getting an additional 10-20% out of a stock engine does not really adversely effect reliability there is plenty of safety margin in most designs. When you go to 50% you are definitely pushing the boundaries.

Similarily with Turbo as the 80 hp to 115 hp Rotax turbo shows 20-30% more does not require drastic changes.

I am sure Rotax would prefer all customers to only buy their products but we live in a free world and Rotax does not have exclusivity on innovation or good engineering.

I'll give a pirep on my Edge EFI. Today 1/25/2021 I have had mine installed for eight months and have flown 150 hours. I have had zero problems. All the parts and work are top notch and great quality. I do not miss the carbs one bit. With my 914 I had started having having hot start issues among the other normal issues. It's been great ! Supposedly around six hp gain. Based on my egt's and a tighter spread it's saving fuel too.
