    Hi Nick,

I static balance everything forward of the gearbox prop flange. If you need to add a little weight you can use a washer on one of the bolts. Then the entire prop assembly ( prop, hub, spacer, all nuts, washers and bolts)is static balanced. This makes a dynamic balance even easier.

Makes sense Roger...so If I need to add weight to one side would you prefer to add the likes of a washer rather than the paint/varnish idea on the prop tip...I do have a job getting paint to stay intact on my warp drive.

    Hi Nick,

If you are only balancing just the prop and no other hardware then many do just apply a little paint. Warp uses a flat black paint. If you are balancing the complete prop assembly then paint won't usually work as well and you may need more weight than paint can supply. I then use a washer on one of the hub bolts. I prefer doing the complete assembly which means everything forward of the prop flange on the gearbox. This is a much more accurate and complete way. Remember it isn't just a prop out on the gearbox flange.

Thanks Roger, I ordered a new static balance tool yesterday locally in the UK...looking forward to checking my prop,

I presume the washers that you fitted would normally go on the opposite side of the prop hub to the gearbox...or is there ever a need to fit them on the gearbox side of the prop hub.

    Nick.

I place them on the large hub bolt to balance then on the back side of the prop flange where the nut is when I remount the prop. It's just easier this way and in no way interferes with anything.
