I've taken Sean's advice and sent an email to Evektor technical asking if I can fit the Toucan or Aeroweld exhaust system. I asked the Australian Zongshen agent for a price on their exhaust for the Chinese Rotax copy. The could supply their exhaust but they came in quite expensive however I think it's worth keeping them in mind for replacement parts.

    The reply 😬

    Dear Philip,

According to our designer You can use only our exhaust system on Your Sportstar SN2004 ****. We can You offer all new version E6 18-15 01 set of exhaust system or new exhaust pipe Front LH. Please contact our dealer Mr.Steve Cesco ((info@evektorsalesaustratia.com.au) for order of spare parts. If You need only exhaust pipe we will need to know PN of exhaust muffler which is installed on Your aircraft (E6 18-10 01 or 766521). Thanks for Your understanding.

    Best regards,

I've already spoken to Steve and he said that the individual pipe has to be made up so I may as well do that myself. I think for the price I can most likely buy a TIG welder too. There was a bulletin on the exhaust change in 2006 so they will approval the new exhaust but I'd have to buy the whole thing and judging the previous prices and delivery time I'll attempt the repair first.

It was worth giving it a go. Its complet BS of course, with the sole intention of keeping your dollars in their hands. There can be no practical justification (other than greed) for not using say a Rotax OM system, which the installer can custom fit to the space/location available.

A word of caution on just replacing an exhaust bit here or there - a failed exhaust pipe can be a very dangerous situation in the air. Super hot exhaust gas potentially melting fuel /oil hose/wires  = fire. Be sure to assess the whole systems condition.

A sort of posative; you now know that Evektor culture - they will attempt to skin you alive for every OM part they supply. 😈

I suggest everyone start by doing some reading on the installation manual for the engine type.  Exhausts can fail internally but even before that be sure they meet the specs from Rotax.  If they can't give you the data on their system perhaps you have the wrong vendor you are dealing with.  Do not buy just on how pretty is polishes up or how cheap they sell it for.

    Cheers
