The existing fuel pumps have had there share of issues and that's why Rotax actively sought to replace these. It is a time consuming en devour and that's after you get enough feed back over time to realize they aren't that great and then to find enough vender's to submit test pumps for evaluation along with the long test periods. I have seen fuel pumps bad right out of the box and many leaking ones. I hope to have a new pump in hand within a few weeks and time will tell.

Roger, Have you ever heard of the current Rotax engine-driven pumps being unable to hold spec pressure or causing fluctuations in fuel pressure indications? Rotax tech has told me they will not replace a pump unless it fails completely or is at least leaking at the weep holes. I was told there is no intermittant failure or inability to maintain spec pressure. I know hot weather ops is heating fuel but I would think the pump could maintain indicated pressure at fixed altitude, fixed power.

    Hi Jim,

Typically if the pump is working then it will hold a fairly steady pressure. Mine sits right at 3.4 and usually never move except for 1/10th occasional.

    This may be your problem:
I have a Dynon D100 with a fuel pressure pulsation dampener. The pressure dampener or pulsation dampener can be purchased from Dynon. Mount it between the fuel out on the fuel pump and before the carb feed line split. Maybe 8"-10" from the fuel out side of the pump. This is a must fro steady pressure feed. It is a metal ball, that looks like a small light bulb. Just tee it in line with the fuel out and it will help dampen pulsations.

This dampener is actually from Floscan: http://www.floscan.com/html/blue/accessorydetail.php?aid=98

You are right that Rotax will not warranty any fuel pump that hasn't had a total failure or is leaking from the seam or weep hole.

Roger, Thanks for the lead; will contact Dynon on Monday to see if it is available for the 180.

I am certain I am dealing with some degree of vapor formation due to high temps here but the pump should be able to compress fuel enough to maintain a relatively constant FP at the sender. The RV12 is rigged by Vans to run with electric boost on all time, so there is no boost to switch on if pressure drops into the yellow. Having the fuel return line complicates the trouble-shooting further..

I have 912 mech. fuel pump (non-Pierburg) leaking a little oil, I flew it until 103hrs.. now I have stopped flying it after reading stories of engine failure etc. After a 15min run up theres only a tiny drop / smear. Previously after an hour flight it was a big drop lining the bowl crimp. Seems like its coming out of the crimp on the bowl, but could be out of the weep holes.. not sure. I checked all the other 912 engines in our hangar, all are the older Pierburg pumps and none have leaks..

I'm waiting for the new style 912 fuel pump.. been almost 2 months on order at CPS, seems no stock of rotax pumps (or billet pumps) anywhere. Its ok, I have learned that I should not rely on this rotax pump, even the new one thats not been proven yet. So I have also ordered a fuel pressure gauge, facet pump & andair one way check valve to install a parallel system. I'm not sure if its safe to fly with mechanical pump leaking oil even with an electric back up. So I'm grounded for now.

If anyone knows where we can get this new style pump (now) please info, CPS don't know when it will arrive - (When the pumps are ready they are going sea freight to Bahamas then ferry & truck to California - could be weeks). Is there any US / European dealer with stock already?
