My new pump has a drip of oil out of the drain hose since installed. Should I replace the pump sending in it for warranty? Should I installed the old pump back (I exchanged it for the new though). Is my plane safe to fly with a this drip of oil out of the drain hose? Do I need any further investigation?.

    Hi Carlos,

It shouldn't have any oil dripping. If it were mine I would exchange it. If it drips a little now it can only get worse not better over time.

    Hi Carlos,
Thank you for reporting your pump failure. We need all failures to be reported so that we can force the Rotax factory to do something about this defective seal inside the pump.
As it is a dynamic seal which is defective, it can only get worse. I experienced it in the field: after I first detected the oil leak on the last pump, I flew another 2 hours and the leak became big enough to coat the bottom of the fuselage. So do not fly with a leaking pump.

    Hi Remi,

I just got this message from leadingedge-airfoils:

"I spoke to the engine tech here. He said that it is normal to have a drip of oil. He said you would need to be concerned when it is more than a drip. He said it will have a little discharge of oil. "

If this drip is a warning of a future failure, this message could be dangerous (I would relax until it fails!).

In my flight yesterday, the fuel pressure dropped to the lower limit and I turned the electric pump. How low is it normal for the pressure to go?

My additional complication is that I live in Colombia, and sending the pump back is not as simple as dropping in the UPS office. So, I need to ask myself: do I REALLY need to change this pump?

    Thanks,

    Hi Carlos,

Fuel pressure limits are 2.2 psi to 5.8 psi.
